Dapper Swain and other notes

Here's my ship layout thus far. It'll need some updates from you guys, and suggestions are welcome.

I still need to finish the exterior designs, but this should get you started. In other news, looks like people are getting together their final bits of character. I'd also like to get any outstanding planets finished up shortly so I have a good feel for what places are available/interesting to you guys.

Let me know what you think.

  1. Looking good so far. Love the Red October reference.

We can't call it the Dapper Swain. I just cannot take that name seriously. It may be a prejudice against the word "dapper."

    How about Windleaf?

  2. BR: Great job on the ship. I'll try to think of some aspects for my cabin.

BP: I like Windleaf. Also I think your consequence progression is 1/2/4. The "Improved consequences" stunt only improves mild and moderate consequences.

Everybody, finally finished my sidetracked. Feedback more than welcome.

Sidetracked: The Browncoats had decided to raid the Persephone in an attempt to strike at the Alliance's moral. Successfully capturing an Alliance ark orbiting an Alliance planet would definitely lower the spirits of Alliance troops. To accomplish this, however, the Independents had to commit a large portion of its forces. When Caesar's carrier had arrived, the battle was already raging around and within the Persephone. Caesar's job was to board the ark and repel Browncoat boarding parties.

Once aboard the ark, Caesar quickly decided he much preferred the expanses on New Canaan to the corridors of the Prometheus. Granted he had a decent number of close quarter skirmishes on New Canaan, but other than that the outdoor combat on the planet better suited Caesar's skill set. As the Caesar's squad slowly searched room by room, Caesar eventually came upon the mainframe of the Prometheus. Laying on the ground Caesar spotted a man sprawled on the floor, wet, naked, and unmoving. Caesar managed to find a medic who assessed the naked man's condition. Sleeping Beauty, as they called him, appeared to be alive, however his pulse was weak and would require medical attention from a hospital. Caesar volunteered to take Sleeping Beauty to Bernadette in an escape pod, explaining to the medic that the Alliance already had more than enough men with guns on board the Prometheus.

Caesar saw this as a chance to at least attempt to save a life. He had spent the war killing for a cause he didn't particularly agree with. In fact, he disagreed with the Alliance's position, but the fear of being charged with desertion held him captive. Now, however, instead of his rifle he held a man who's future depended on Caesar. Caesar began to hope ''Maybe if I save Sleeping Beauty, this war will have mean something to me.'' While Caesar had limited pilot training, he had enough to feel confident that he could pilot the escape pod out of danger and make a safe(ish) landing on Bernadette.

Though mostly luck than skill, Caesar sailed the escape pod through the heated fighting between Independent and Alliance fleets. Caesar had the escape pod on the surface of Bernadette, and it wasn't long until a medical team answered his distress signal and was able to take Sleeping Beauty to a medical facility.

    Aspects:
    "I'll save you!"
"I guess I can fly this thing."

  3. Sam: While Dr. Ferguson is unconscious from Caesar's perspective, it's entirely possible that Dr. Ferguson was well aware of his surroundings. I'll leave it up to you to fill in how much he remembers of his time with Prince Charming.

  4. Terry & others: Bernadette write-up added to wiki. I copied the layout from Londinium, which appears to have created some new pages which I'm not yet prepared to create. Was working on an Earth-That-Was writeup, then I realized how cheesy and cheap that would be, so I'm still pondering.

    I vote for Dapper Swain.

Aspects for Tadhg's quarters: "Stolen Viewscreen" "Nothing's in its Place." "Tadhg, isn't it a little warm in here?".

  5. I'd rather find another ship name b/c bphage has a strong opinion against; any suggestions? I have a few.
    Jeanie O
    Windleaf
    RedEye
    Old Drum
    Chuck Wagon
    Rochambeau
    Beer and Skittles

  6. Beer and Skittles. 'Nuff said.

By looking at the deck layout it appears that Doc's quarters will be his shuttle. Am I right?

Also, what does the shuttle bay look like? Is it fully enclosed with hanger doors and its own pressurization compartment, or is it more of an docking/entry hatch? I'd vote for more of a hanger.

  7. as I'm drawing it, the shuttle has a docking platform on top of the ship. kinda like what is seen for the serenity, or if you watched SG Universe, like that. an interior bay seemed overkill for a ship this size.

    thoughts?

terry, I like the aspect prince charming based on your sidetracked. the only issue I have with the story is the minor differences between the descriptions of the ark. I could totally see you hotwiring a 500 year old escape pod to lauch it from the upper reaches of the ship though; its probably half a mile or more tall.as I'm drawing it, the shuttle has a docking platform on top of the ship. kinda like what is seen for the serenity, or if you watched SG Universe, like that. an interior bay seemed overkill for a ship this size.

  9. that has my vote, probably twice with these tunnels.

  10. Youxia might be more appropriate given the crew, but Wuxia would be a fine name if we're implying the ship has a military history.

  11. I've been working on my character and I'll try tu update tomorrow. Sorry if I'm holding anyone up.

  12. No hold up issues with me. I think right now everyone is finalizing their sheets still. We've got a few more things to do there. I'm putting together the updated ship diagrams, intending to call it Wuxia unless someone has an objection/better idea.

The ship exterior is coming along nicely (straining arm to pat self). I may go ahead and upload it in a few - it's getting to the point where I should stop fiddling.

  13. = Sidetracked =

"It was nice to have a well paying job," thought Becky as she once again reviewed the endless stream of data on her box. Thelonius Bonham may not have an eye for computer security, but he certainly seemed to have an eye for employees who best fit his needs. Becky smirked, thinking about how she had proved her worth by breaking his system within 5 minutes. She had been hired on the spot. But the job was getting boring. Once the news spread that "Pandora" had been consulted on Bonham's security system, no one had had the gall to attempt even a simple hack.

But tonight was different. She triple checked, but it was obvious that someone had attempted to bypass the irregular checks on the safe by creating a mimic, regular check. "Amateur." Beck... er, Pandora notified the security officer who simply dismissed her warnings. Maybe Bonham's staff selections weren't as great as she thought. Pandora wasn't one to correct Bonham's mistake, but she also couldn't allow it to be known that her security had been cracked without setting off alarms.

While she couldn't set them off herself, Becky Cooper could make an appearance. It wasn't difficult to determine that the intruder had used the garbage chute and he would more likely than not exit the same way. Decked out in her SAS armour, Becky set up her rifle with a great vantage point and headed down to make herself apparent to the exiting intruder. Pulling up the heads-up display, Becky adjusted the aim of the rifle on the garbage chute.

The intruder sure took his time, but she eventually noticed him stick his head up. It was obvious he had seen her, because he didn't just make his escape. Becky allowed herself to appear even more casual and looked away. Her heads up display showed everything she needed to see. The man's suit made him difficult to see with the naked eye, but the special sensors on her suit made him stick out like a sore thumb.

She was surprised to see him pick a flower and make his way toward her. While her body remained completely still, the rifle's scope got a great look of the man's profile. When he simply placed the flower behind her, she refrained from pulling the trigger - no need to reward her employer for his incompetent choice of security.

    === Made a Pseudonym for Herself ===
=== Eyes in the Back of Her Head ===

Let me know what you think. :)

  14. LR: I like it a lot. It's a bit romantic, too. : )

One suggestion, instead of "Eyes in the Back of Her Head," maybe just "Eyes Everywhere." With her savviness in security an aspect that reflects her ability to monitor multiple areas in addition to her surroundings would work.

BR: What about my description of the ark should I change? I know nothing about the ship so I just made some stuff up.

Still thinking about good aspects for Caesar's quarters.

  15. The arks were used as transport between Earth and the 'current' system; they were larger than Alliance Command Carriers by several multiples, if not a factor. All but the Prometheus (and those lost in the Exodus) were dismantled after arrival in the system . Prometheus was grounded, becoming the central landmark of New Paris, Bernadette. It was filled with artifacts and replications from Earth-That-Was, and became (officially) a museum/memorial for Humanity's beginnings.

  16. Hehe... Oh I'm immature... I'm with Terry on the "Eyes Everywhere" or something similar. Maybe "She knows if you are hacking, she knows of your mistakes".

I'm still trying to trim the fat on the sidetracked for Doc.

Also, do you want me to design the shuttle?

    ReplyDelete
  17. just aspects for the shuttle are fine. I figure its about the size of the shuttles on the show, so basically a cabin with a control panel in the closet.

  18. Working on a variety of updates. Ship exterior is effectively done, just need to process the file for .png and upload.

I also have some rules ideas to run by the group, will drop those tonight. also have some wiki bits that are coming together.
