The fuzzy dwarf is clearly distracted by the flash of knee from Harmony, and his head is also pulled out of focus by the captain’s shouts (3 and 4 against your rolls, both the trick and the taunt are successes) . Blendin takes his opportunity, striking out with a fast left hand that’s poorly aimed in an unsuccessful attempt to draw his target off-balance (Ag trick at -2, failure) , but the distracted dwarf hardly notices. Blendin twists at the waist, striking a clean fast blow against the dwarf’s chest with his right. Unfortunately, as the blow lands his feet slip on the sand, and very little power is transferred to his target (Hit with raise, but only 5 damage even including the joker bonus. No effect.) .
His target moves to box the wildlings ears (Ag trick, -2MAP, massive failure) but the wildling deftly ducks the blow. Unfortunately, Blendin doesn’t see the fast knee rising up (Wild attack, hit on this one. Target is at minus 2 to hit until next action. 11 damage. Blendin is shaken and has 2 wounds, pending soak) . The crowd “OHHH”s as the wilding is lifted off his feet.
Next round is 9c blendin, kc, Kimball. Kimball will act this evening on my ride home. You’ll have until then crew to try and save your wildling friend from an inglorious failure in the arena. Blendin, you probably want to soak now, with the joker boost. However, there is a crazy option, too. If next round he lands another blow and deals damage, you can soak then, and potentially remove your wounds from this attack without spending a benny for a second soak. Remember, if you decide not to soak here, you will be @ -2 due to wounds (a total of a 4 point shft) when you attempt the later soak. This is a gambly move, but it might save you a benny (it will probably end in tears). Also, if he misses, you won’t draw the soak opportunity. Your call. Might be a good time for those pep talks, guys.

Remind me what I need to roll to soak.... or, just roll it for him now. Question: Obviously weapons are not allowed in the ring, but can gods be of assistance without discrediting the fighter?
ReplyDeletesoak 1 wound. you roll vigor to soak. still shaken. I've rolled my action and am hoping one of you can help out Blendin. i will post after picking up my fancy suit from the suit getting place.
ReplyDeletein answer to the battlelords opinion of divine intervention, Blendin knows little about his rites and so forth. your exposure to the battlelords ways were limited to Wungs references to his orcish fighting prowess. wung was not exactly a fair fighter, of course. the other thing you remember is the tc admiral from tje trial, he liked rules, sure, but you got the distinct impression he also liked Toolys end around.
ReplyDeleteHarmony sucks her breath through her teeth as her shipmate has the breath knocked out of him. Hoping anger will help him recover, she shouts "Come on, wildling! Can't you put up a fight, at least, or do you need your gun to do your fighting for you?"
ReplyDeletePep talk: 9. Nothing but 8s and 1s. If I just roll it, it's all normal, but as soon as it matters, it's 8s and 1s. At least they were in the right order this time.
Also, can we get a benny count?
@LR: You can benny hit rolls but not damage, so it might be good to use called shots, trading a hit penalty for a damage bonus, since you don't do much damage barehanded. If there's any more rounds.
ReplyDelete"His neck, Man! His neck! I told you not to watch his fists! What are you, daft?! He advertises his every move! (notice roll 4) No, don't look at me, watch he..Duck, duck! Good block, good, now stay in this, Blendin! Keep your head, and watch his neck!"
ReplyDeleteAll this yelling (and the mental trigonometry) has made Xisco thirsty. He looks around for the solution to his thirst.
----------
Smarts roll 12 for the trig. He'd rather save it for the final fight, but if Blendin is still wobbly, and Kimball moves into the correct position of on the arena, and Kimball is facing the correct direction, then Xisco will get the prostitute's attention with a wave, complement her bosom, and surreptitiously cast his light spell off behind him so that it will reflect off of her necklace and into Kimball's eyes (I'll leave the spell's success roll in BR's capable hands). Xisco is totally sure this is gonna work; it worked for Tom Cruise, and Tommy-boy was not nearly as good looking as Xisco is.
Current Benny Count, after granting one for a fantastic post by Sam and spending as appropriate current up to the end of this post.
ReplyDeleteXisco: 5
Gardner: 3
Blendin: 2
Harmony: 1
Xisco is convinced its going to work. His trig provides him with a few optimum positions around the arena. I’ll roll a d6, on an even result he’s in position and you can attempt to use light as a distraction. This will start at the next round (assuming there is one). Harmony provides +2 to his toughness, which is great, b/c it turns a hit with raise into a hit…
The dwarf drops his advanced knee to the ground, and lashes out with his back leg in, for blendin, a waist-high kick. The wildling stumbles back, and looks as if he may be ready to take a quick lizardnap. (hit, 23 damage. Oh exploding die, you rogue you. Blendin is incap unless he soaks currently, you are at -1, but you have a +1 due to your blessing, so you roll your soak as a straight vigor. I took the liberty of rolling the first soak for you: 7. You can reroll if you wish at an extra benny.
This roll removes one wound, so you’re at 2 wounds and shaken. Attempting to unshake: 13. You are able to act this round based on that, currently at a -2. If you want to reroll soak you can, but you might be better off saving it.
After you act, the next turn order is 4d blendin, 10d Kimball. He’ll go first next round. Crew, feel free to add in more peptalks or other such things if you wish, but they will apply to next round, not the current blendin action.
Xisco, your trig roll is 5. He is out of position. Maybe next next round.
Gardner does his best to mock the dwarf's kick, "If it weren't for that disgusting crusty beard I'd think it were a toddler in there, kicking and screaming for his mother's teet. I bet the toddler angle works well with the whores, eh, Kimball? Maybe not the pretty one, but certainly the ugly one."
ReplyDelete--------------------------
Taunt = 17
Blendin, with a soft whisper to his wrist, takes a run at Kimbal before lifting both legs in the air aimed at the dwarf's neck. Blendin's adorned wrist aims in the opposite direction as the gust of wind from his little friend pushes him harder into his target.
ReplyDeleteFighting: 6 (if that isn't enough to do something, feel free to reroll it with a benny.)
Harmony gnaws a knuckle as the wildling attempts a flying kick at the sturdy dwarf. She'd hoped to save this trick for his last opponent, but it looks like this one might be it...
ReplyDeleteGonna see how the kick turns out. If the dwarf gets shaken or KO'd, a trick isn't as much good.
ooc: New nickname for Blendin, RPL (rocket propelled lizard). He gets a benny for that craziness, are you kidding me? A drop kick in a pit fight might have gotten a benny anyway, but this is too good. I’m going to say that if you knew you’d get the benny, you’d reroll, per Bphage’s suggestion, b/c you’ll just barely connect otherwise.
ReplyDeleteAlso ruling it’s a wild attack, b/c you’ll end the move prone. If you do enough damage to shake, your target will have to make an Ag roll or be knocked down as well. Also, there’s a damage boost on this attack based on the str die of the elemental.
Blendin feels the push of air as he extends his arm above his head, bracing his elbow with the other hand. His feet sink into the mat of sweat hair on the dwarf’s chest with a solid blow (benny reroll is a 10: hit with raise, damage is 14. Shaken, 1 wound. Ag check: 2-1, he falls. no falling damage for either of you.)
The crowd explodes in cheers as both fighters collapse to the ground in a tangle and roll apart. Even the Warpriest has his head thrown back with belly laughs of divine enjoyment. Blendin is trying to find purchase in the sand, as his opponent is attempting to come around but is instead glaring up at a particularly venomous Capt. Gardner (Next round -3 I think? – Kimball is shaken, rolls a 5-1. He is unshaken but cannot act this turn. Gardner attacks with taunt:14 vs. 10, and he’s reshaken. Blendin you can act for round 3. You are currently prone. Getting up is an action that will apply a MAP. You are close enough to try some ground-fighting, if you wish. Round 4 initiative is: AH blendin, 9D Kimball. You can take 2 actions in a row).
Harmony slaps the railing and bounces on her perch, shouting, "He's got him! He's got him!" A moment later she's quiet again, flushing red at her own enthusiasm for violence, even if it is both pious and fairly harmless.
ReplyDeleteOOC: He's on the ropes! Now or never!
Correct me if I'm wrong, BR, but ground fighting basically means fighting but attacks AND parries are both at -2? Only thing I found regarding it in the rules was the "prone" section of the special rules.
ooc: basically, yes. But recall unarmed combat is at an additional -2 parry, and blendin is at 2 wounds, so an additional -2 to hit. -4/-4 so far.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteOOC: Doing the math for future reference, so correct me if I'm wrong about anything, please.
ReplyDeleteFrom an offensive perspective, a -2 parry hurts more than a -2 to hit, usually. On the other hand, if he uses an action to stand up, he can attack before the dwarf stands up...so two attacks at -4 on the ground, or stand and get one at-4 and one at -2, I guess, with a MAP on the first one. And the dwarf is at -3 parry either way from 1 wound and being prone. So unless he has to roll to stand up, it would make more sense to stand and attack.
If standing requires a roll, though, the MAP would apply to that roll, which would be bad, so it might be better to just stand this round and take one attack at -2 next round, or try two at -4 on the ground.
From a strictly story-based persepctive, I like the idea of kicking/stomping from a standing position better than trying to wrestle a hairy dwarf in the dirt, but that might just be me.
Blendin struggles to his feet and takes a quick kick at the dwarf as he remains prone. Blendin is certainly unwilling to give his opponent a chance to stand.
ReplyDeleteooc: Willing to spend a benny to hit.
Blendin twists his legs in a quick scissor and rises to his feet with a spin. his kick deftly finds its mark, but the dwarf rolls clear of the worst of the blow. (hit with raise on a 14 even with the map no benny spent. damage is 5, no effect. your round 4 action is up Blendin.)
ReplyDeleteoh and the rest of you can add abilities now for round 4 if you want. still not in blinding position xisco.
ReplyDeleteooc: Let's see if I can get some boosts before this action goes into effect, but I'll post it now. As before, ready to spend a benny if necessary. How is my little friend doing? I don't want to completely wear him out on the second guy. If his assistance will tucker him out on this next move, I will do it without assistance.
ReplyDelete-----------------------------------------------
Blendin jumps into the air and aims his adorned wrist into the air. The burst of air from his little friend pushes his elbow deep into the flesh of the prone dwarf as the lizardling returns to the ground.
(without help from the bracelet) Blendin will perform a body slam, using his elbow to inflict the pain.
Harmony nearly slips off the railing when she puts both hands to her mouth as the wildling goes for an elbow-drop, which looks certain to be painful for someone. She catches herself and smiles at a private joke.
ReplyDeleteHarmony's pep talks won't help with offense, so no point in her burning a benny.
Blendin leaps into the air, throwing his body out parallel to the ground with his bony elbow aimed at the dwarfs midsection. The sins if the blow cannot be heard over the cringing of the audience at its brutality.
ReplyDeleteooc: hit with elbow strike. benny granted bc of the macho man. did a wound, which is enough to take out this mook.
Blendin stumbles to his feet as Kimball is carried out of the ring, complaining all the while that he could have stayed in the fight. The warpriest addresses the crowd "Who will finish this celebration of faith?" at the far end of the hold, like a parting curtain the audience moves to reveal the final combatant: Gunnys off butler, covered in tattoos and piercings, with both wrists and hands wrapped in a thick fiber. He stands to cheers from everyone not from the olic, and bellows in his tongue "I would take the honor if it be granted!" before vaulting to the floor below.
the warpriest raises his hands, and the crowd silences. he walks to Blendin and whispers "there is no dishonor in failure but the 'lord may smile on you yet. Begin!"
ooc: the battlelord has removed your 2 wounds and given you a single point of fatigue. you act first this round.
the butler is an orc not an off.
ReplyDeleteooc: what is the implication of point of fatigue?
ReplyDeleteGardner will taunt the orc in his native language to try to distract him at the start of the fight:
ReplyDelete"I expected them to send a real warrior to face my man. The duty of a butler, like crewing an oar, is more fit for a goblin slave."
--------------
Taunt 9
Harmony looks worried--that orc is much bigger and meaner- looking than a human or dwarf, but the wildling is tenacious and wily. Hiding a smile, though, she waits until the orc is facing her and starts to turn to climb back over the railing from her precarious perch. A she does, her hips slip off the rail and she ends up on her belly, seemingly in danger of falling into the arena. One thing she forgot to account for was the way her skirt was hiked up to distract the dwarf, and her little manuever causes it to hike up still further for a moment, showing her knickers until it falls down to cover her legs. She dangles and kick dramatically for a minute, then easily swings her leg up and over and takes a place on the correct side of the railing to watch the fight, face red and focused entirely on the arena to avoid looking around.
ReplyDeleteSmarts trick, I figure someone about to fall into the arena would get the orc's attention for a sec. Got an 11, so figured something extra-distracting should happen, too. Even if the orc isn't enthralled by undies, the crowd should make some unexpected noise at getting semi-mooned "by accident."
fatigue is a -1 across the deck, but doesnt count as a wound per say; you'll recover it slowly. There are some other effects on movement and stuff that won't show up in this setting. Essentially, you're at a slight disadvantage, but you can still take 3 wounds.
ReplyDeleteThe orc shrugs out of his rope overalls, and stretches his neck with a series of pops. "Come, little fellow. I've seen what you can do to a toothless human and a balding dwarf, lets see if you can hold your own against the Battlelord's Chosen!"
ReplyDeleteyour move.
the orc kneels and points to the bony edged jawline. "here wildling, this is my weak spot"
ReplyDeleteWith his target already on his knees, Blendin moves forward and gives the mighty orc a mighty kick to the family jewels. (Willing to Benny)
ReplyDeleteThe Glow IRL:
ReplyDeletehttp://i348.photobucket.com/albums/q322/DontTreadOnMeBS/Mobile%20Uploads/20110606200443.jpg
That's what it looked like when I woke up this evening, except it was even more orange in person. Either overcast skies, atmospheric pressure, and wildfires were playing with the sunset in creepy ways, or the city is now floating in the Void.
People are advised to stay indoors, too. For health reasons.
That does look like a post-apocalyptic hellscape.
ReplyDeleteIt seems the Void has swallowed our GM.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I can't help but have that song I parodied on here a while back stuck in my head. Specifically, the lines:
"Aw, we ain't got trees,
Let's take a walk in the toxic breeze."
Sadly appropriate, at the moment.
The void and denver. business trip and crummy internet access. thought I mentioned it in an earlier post - apparently not. my bad.
ReplyDeleteBlendin misses his target, even after spending a benny. His target similarly wiffs.
Round 2 initiative goes to the orc. He swings again and hits, but does only 3 damage so even blendin's terrible toughness deflects it.
Blendin, your action.
Round 3 will also be your action, so take 2.
Gardner's Peptalk:
ReplyDelete"Only one more to go. Take him down, Blendin. Show the Battlelord's chosen what the followers of Alpha can do." Taunt 19
Xisco can no longer maintain a complete air of indifference. (Notice 8)
ReplyDelete"Blendin! He's seeing you coming from a mile away! He's reading you like a book! Walk without rhythm, man, walk without rhythm! Or, at the very least, stop stepping into his punches! Ooh, are those peanuts..."
the two combatants circle each other looking for an opening. the orc throws a few test punches which Blendin easily avoids, their feet kicking up little clouds of sand. Blendin notes a moment of distraction in the orcs focus, and knows now is his chance.
ReplyDeleteBlendin fakes to the right, shifts colors to create a blur as he moves to the left and sweeps his foot around attempting to kick the orc's feet out from under him. (Willing to spend Benny).
ReplyDeleteSorry for the slow responses. Still working while also studying for the Bar Exam.
you're not the only one with crazy weeks it seems. update by tonite. br
ReplyDeleteAlright, here's my read of the setup. JWW's taunt hits, and shakes the target. LR attacks with the following: both a smarts and an agility trick in the same round (fake and colorshift). Both of these are at -2 for MAP, but +1 b/c of the help provided by Xisco. Rolling: 2 and -1 vs. 4 and 4. I'll rule that you'll use a benny to reroll both - the targets are low and your dice were pretty crappy. starting with the AG roll 5, he's at -2 parry, and the other 8, -2 parry, shaken again. Since this is non-damaging, no wound, but -4 net parry on your attack.
ReplyDeleteAttack targeting the legs is at -2, plus the -1 from fatigue. size modifiers and whatnot... roll is 4 against a 3 parry. Hit. Damage roll: 3, no effect.
Butler Billy attempts to unshake: 11, moves this round.
The orc brings both hands down in a menacing blow aimed at the top of blendin's skull. He gives a bloodcurdling cry of retribution, targeted against the smaller combatant's wily techniques.
wild attack, targeting head: -4,+2,-1 net -3 vs your parry. Spent his 2 bennies to hit.
Damage: 7 vs. 3, Shaken 1 wound.
Next round turn order: blendin then butler billy. Blendin attempts to unshake: unshake, can act next round.
Butler Billy aims a kick at Blendin's midsection, standard attack. Miss. Using a GM benny. Hit. Damage: 8, shaken 1 more wound, brings you to 2 wounds.
Orc acts first in round 6.
The little wildling is stumbling back from the kick to the craw, and doesn't see the orcs arms lashing out for a bearhug "Stop your dancing!"
Grapple! Hit. Blendin is entangled. Blendin's attempt to unshake: 2 plus mostly negative mods, Failure.
Round 7: orc acts first.
The crowd oooohhhss as Butler Billy bends over backwards, the wildling flailing in the air trying to wriggle free. "Now I crush the air out of you!" Gardner makes out the words in orcish, although to blendin it sounds as if the creature has gas.
6 v 3, hit. Damage 10, that's incap. Vigor roll to stay up: 9!!!! on a d fucking 4. you are a beast, blendin. benny granted for the crazy ass save.
Blendin has Round 7 initiative, and a joker. rolls a 8 after mods on his unshake, can act this round.
Blendin attempts to break grapple, AG v. ST. 9 v 8. You are free and can act next round.
The orc gives a bellow and a stomping kick hammers down at the wildling as he wriggles free to the sand below. Hit. Damage shakes and wounds. Incap check 4 post mods. Blendin, I'd suggest you reroll that vigor with your last Benny, or you drop. You need an 11, effectively.
Sorry for the long post with low interaction - its kinda a cached fight. There were all these no option rolls in there, so I took the liberty to speed things along. However, I'll let you make your benny save check, since that seems rather critical.
Still nothing in the triangles?
ReplyDeletepythagorus is not with you
ReplyDeleteEh, Pythagorus would have run screaming from a bean, anyway. He's a poor ally. Harmony would have used her last benny to give Blendin a pep-talk, there, but it looks like it wouldn't have mattered. She'll do it now, though: WS roll: 9 (we are rolling the Wild Die on these, right? 4 if not).
ReplyDeleteHarmony makes concerned noises as the orc beats and crushes her shipmate. He takes it all amazingly well, though, and she yells out, "You're the toughest little bastard I've ever seen! Get up and fight!"
As Blendin loses his last bit of wind, a short prayer for help escapes his lips. -vigor: 4 (hoping for a little help from his lady or his little friend, Sul)-
ReplyDeleteThe roar of victory from the orc is met with a mixture of jeers and cheers; it seems the people of Tuvalu like underdogs - or in this case underlizards.
ReplyDeleteBlendin sags in the sand, avoiding a full sprawl as he attempts to maintain consciousness. the thundering in his earholes is replaced with a growing rustle, like wind through the icy trees of Timber. his mind's eye sees the scene of destruction that will soon be unfolding before him; the Priest hull open to the Void, bodies flying through the air, pocked with bloody marks from sand accelerated on heavy gusts of wind.
The crews focus is on their falling comrade. Xisco careful eye is the first to spot the whirling sand around the wildlings hunched figure. a few grains at first, but growing by the moment. Fang begins to whine, and crouches under the thin bench with his tail tucked.
"i 'ill expect our delivery 'fore you depart. No hard..." Gunny's words are cut short by a sound like a main mast shattering in a gale; the bracelet on the wildlings wrist cracks apart and a pillar of air smashed into the orc, pushing him up high into the rafters above as if he were a feather, where he smashes though with a wet sploosh. Void light cascades down on Blendins folded form, alone in the eye of a growing hurricane of sand and splinters and orc blood.
Harmony bolts for the exit, mentally cursing the "damned murderous wilding," the instant the orc is flung through the roof, hoping that if she gets out in time she can see where he lands and possibly save his life. Possibly. After a moment, her intellect catches up to her instinct and she realizes that her reflexive action was the right one, as saving the orc might prevent her ship from being held for a murder "trial," and getting herself out of the building is also a wise survival move. Satisfied with this reaffirmation that acts of compassion are their own reward, she slithers through the stunned crowd and to the doors.
ReplyDeleteAs a result, she misses much of the growing show in the arena, and also the imminent stampede from the building.
Taking a guess that moving quickly through the crowd might require a check, figure agility is most appropriate. Ag check: 7
On a side note: I habitually rolled a d8 and d6 because nearly every skill or attribute check I've done with Tooly and Harmony was a d8. The d8 came up 1, of course. Fortunately, this one was NOT a d8 roll, so it didn't count. Take THAT, crazy d8 roller!
MAJOR OOC, but I had to share. Zombies are officially EVERYWHERE, now. Sure the CDC's Zombie Survival Kit (http://abclocal.go.com/wls/story?section=news/bizarre&id=8140256) is basically a joke/gimmick, but then there's this: http://www.outbreakomega.com/
ReplyDeleteYou can now LARP a zombie apocalypse with real guns and live ammo, and they even furnish automatic weapons for some scenarios. Wow. Just...wow.
OOC part 2: Be sure to check out the "trailer" for the zombie shooting camp http://www.outbreakomega.com/image.html
ReplyDeleteI can't decide if the best part is setting it to "Killing in the Name of" by Rage Against the Machine, or the guy running the shooting course with two katanas strapped to his back. Also, this is the third year, apparently.
Gardner stands stunned, unsure what to make of the scene. He looks to the battlelord to gauge his intentions.
ReplyDeleteupdate tonight.
ReplyDeletea new.savage worlds came out. I'm reading it - seems to be minor changes and cleanup instead of a big change. if I decide to upgrade to it, I'll get with you via email with your new character sheets, and any major rules changes will be discussed in ooc first.
thread closing. New one opening once blogger stops pissing me off.
ReplyDeleteBlogger still pissing you off? You realize it's probably never going to stop entirely...
ReplyDeleteThough I'll forgive the lateness if you're away at Zombie Apocalypse training camp.
post writtten and then rewritten. wifes birthday last night, didn't upload. will do when I get home tonight. apologies.
