The crew made it back relatively early after having spent the night in various locales. Blendin was the only shareholder who spent the night aboard the vessel, the others having taken in the various pleasures available at the new Inn: the mundane (fresh sheets and soft beds), the expensive (‘room service’ and ‘bedwarmers’), and the unique (independent and flexible elven women).
Taz was right about the sheets, they are a wonder to behold even furled as they are now straining to catch a stiff gale and direct it to your purpose. He and the other crewmembers have stowed the gear, rechecked provisions and portioned off the bunkroom to make space for the new additions. Medicus has requested he sleep on the gundeck, as he doesn’t much care for the smell of the eggs down by the hold. No one else seems to notice the aroma.
Port fees appear to have been handled by the priestesses, so your ship is ready to make way once the sphere is attuned and a destination selected. The harbor here requires no pilot, and the dock is quiet after many of the pilgrims have departed from the recent festival.
Blendin has brought by the three new ‘crew’ options: all human, quite dirty and rather clearly miscreants the lot of them even by skysailor standards. Their clothes appear to have been tatters for some time, and time has not been kind. One bears bronze cleaver tucked into his rope belt, and goes by the name of Vilmer. He is lean and stringy, with arms almost too long. He states he can climb like an ape and has at least twice the sense with a toothy grin. When Taz asks for references, he indicates he was a crewman on a trawler as a boy, but she sank some years back. He gets a tad uncomfortable about more recent experience.
The next potential crewman is Yohan, who is armed with a sword that is clearly a TC sergeants sabre and by far the most expensive item in their collective possession. He is missing most of an ear and has a bare patch of scarred scalp from the associated bladestroke. He states he has been in his share of fights, and knows how to protect a ship if it comes to it. He also decides to mimic word for word his other credentials from Vilmer.
The final bloke is a pug-faced short fellow, Edvin. He has no possessions save for his tunic and worn boots. He states his job skills as “doin’ as me is told, sah.” He promises to serve until his death in any capacity, promises not to abscond with that ‘which ain’t mine by your command, sah,’, shows scars from a few battles to indicate his fearlessness. For credentials, he makes no bones about being a pirate for as long as he can remember, and served until recently aboard the Fist of the Mighty with the other 2 until she sank 2 weeks back. The other two look nervous at this revelation. Taz swears a series of particularly inventive oaths. At this they offer to serve for half wages until they work off the cost of passage from Bridgeways to your next destination.
ooc: Knowledge ships roll = 5, lore roll = 4.
Fist of the Mighty is (was) one of the most feared doppleganger ships of the ice isles. It was captained by Evic the Black. Even if it sank, if these men were aboard her at any time in their life, they will face summary execution in most any TC jurisdiction. Harboring them isn’t a crime per se, but can lead to uncomfortable situations if they are identified – even if they don’t try to kill you in your sleep.
Dragan/Xisco, final take was 800, minus 30 spent on wine, food, and so forth to ensure a pleasant evening. Tooly, you spent a similar sum (32 cogs) on your room for the night. Gardner spent a more sensible 5 cogs and feels like he got his money worth.

I'm inclined to say no on the pirates. Thoughts from others?
ReplyDeleteBlendin will obviously vote for their hiring, as he feels a sense of debt.
ReplyDelete"I must say these three could be quite helpful if have another run-in with those damned elves."
But that is as far as Blendin will go to argue for them to join the ship. If the olic refuses them as crew, Blendin will apologize to them and offer them 20 cogs apiece as thanks. (being sure to carry a bag of only 60 cogs when he does so.)
Tooly watches the pirates appraisingly, with curious glances at Blendin. He's wary of taking on three cutthroats, but with his flame gun out of commission, their fighting skills might be useful. He declines to vote either for or against taking them on, but speaks up with an idea. "If we don't hire them ourselves, we might at least see if Smilin' Dan could use three new hands. It'll get 'em off the TC islands," he nods to Blendin, who clearly owes these men for something, "but we don't have to worry about...payin' 'em."
ReplyDelete"Sorry gentlemen, we've got sufficient crew right now. But Smilin' Dan might need a few extra hands. I suggest you go find him."
ReplyDeleteAttune the waysphere and head for Shadowhaven once everyone is ready to go.
boating roll for travel time = 9(5 + 2 windsilk + 2 ace)
ReplyDeleteooc: Any other actions before leaving bridgeways need to be posted here. I'll set up the next bit tonight.
ReplyDeleteBlendin, still waiting on your advance. If you're hurting for ideas, I can send some along.
You should have what you need in e-mail. Blendin is more than ready to take his leave of these islands.
ReplyDelete"Dan might have some more...appropriate crew for us, he said he'd look into it. Maybe we could give Blendin's buddies a ride when we swing by to check? It'll only take an hour at most, right?" He winks at the wildling.
ReplyDelete---------------
I want to get underway, but I figured this is something the crew would look into, particularly Tooly, as he's a bit down and would like a singer or songpriest for the long trip.
Did we (try to) look into that supercargo mentioned previously?
ReplyDeleteooc: As far as I know, no supercargo was investigated.
ReplyDeleteSmiling Dan was unable to track down extra crew, but happy to hire on new hands familiar with rough work.
Travel time to Shadowhaven is 6 week this time of year. Closing this one. New thread going up.
