Sundered Skies Play by Post Campaign

What you need to know. Sundered Skies is a Savage Worlds setting which blends high fantasy with steampunk skyships – in a phrase, the perfect setting. Eons ago, the world was sundered by a war between gods, rending the earth into a ball of fire, with floating islands scattered across the sky. With the gods help, the survivors established homes on these islands, and began to trade with their neighbors to ease their difficult circumstances. These floating islands vary greatly in terms of resources, and many remain uncharted. Climates are measured in altitude, with a massive frozen sea above that melts and rains on the islands below, while great iron citadels of the dwarves lie close to the sea of flame that is the bottom of the world. No sun warms these lands, only a constant Glow from above; the Glow is strongest in the vast expanse between islands known as the Void. Its unholy light brings on madness and terrible transformations to those too long exposed. Brave shipcaptains and their crews travel the Void, bringing vital trade and fishing for abundant food to sustain those on the islands.

This campaign will center on an unlikely dirigible crew, hired by Magnus Greenbottom, a merchant in the great city of Shadowhaven. While they were tasked with merely turning a profit, perhaps fate would lead to something more…

Characters. The familiar humanoid races make an appearance, but with some twists:

+ Humans: are versatile and skilled. They are common throughout the isles.

+ Dwarves: mine islands in the lower reaches for precious metal. They travel in steampowered, armorclad ships. They are a hardy folk who take great pride in their clans. Most worship the great steel god Artificer, who provides them with their advanced technology.

+ Orcs: are large and fearsome, bringing dread with them wherever they travel. However, many orcs have taken their god’s, the Battlelord’s, example, and have attempted to reform their violent ways. For the first time, peaceful orc settlements of tethered ships have begun to appear, and form great floating cities. They have become ice miners and goblin slavers, but their warriors bloodthirst is still warm.

+ Elves: have a distinct oneness with the Wild, their god. Elves show aspects of nature through physical modifications, from bark-like armored skin to spiny thorn protrusions. The elves are a slaver race, except for those who have determined to turn from their heritage, known as boughbreakers.

+ Drakin: are a draconic race, skilled in magic and secretive. They worship dragons as gods and kings. A few among them, the Chosen, begin to show signs of draconic enlightenment, over time grow more and more into their forebears' likeness.

+ Wildlings: are a slave race born of woodland creatures and dark magic in the Elven Fleshforge. The wildlings retain physical aspects of their former selves, such as fur or feathers, as well as advantages of that species. Abused by their cruel elven masters, a few escape to travel the skies, always watchful for the Shepherds that look to bring them home. Those that travel the Void find they are immune to the effects of the Glow, making them able skyfarers. They look to the day their god, Alpha, arrives to free their people.

+ Glowborn: are goblins that have been transfigured by the Glow, not into monsters but into a new humanoid race. They are loyal, unfazed by danger, and versatile. They are a young race, without attachment to their former goblin culture or history, and are making a new home for themselves on Freedom Isle, under the watchful gaze of the Elves.

This is just a taste of a rather flavorful world. If you’re interested in play, I’m interested in having you aboard. Some of you have electronic copies of the setting book; many of you have hardcopies of Savage Worlds rules. Those that don’t contact me, and we’ll work something out.

Thus far, 2 characters have been submitted, a salty aged captain and a fearsome elf warrior. The crew could use additional misfits before it sets sail.

  1. We have achieved my minimum players to continue - huzzah! While waiting on the others to (hopefully) join in, I'll go ahead and start adding up setting specifics and backstory. Also, those of you who are playing should begin working on character sheets (if needed) and background. Look for a new post this evening (although for those of you in EST, it may be tomorrow morning).
